— Two brave and modern young Tibetan women will compete in the Miss Tibet pageant 2008. The two contenders will be disclosed on 12 October when they will come on stage to compete in four rounds of competitions in evening gown, talent, traditional costume and interview.

Judges will decide the winner through the four rounds, which will have 10 points each.

The two contenders will be trained in yoga, dance and stage craft, and will be given orientation on Tibetan culture for a week.

The winner will receive a cheque for 100,000 rupees (2500 USD approx), and the second place will receive 50,000.00 rupees (1250 USD approx). The prize money is offered to help the winners further their education or vocational skills.

Gyalnor Tsewang, who is a member of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile as well as businessman from Nepal, donated 50,000 rupees for the pageant. Asia Health Resorts will be another co-sponsor.

We are still looking for funding assistance to cover the costs of the pageant and the prize money.

The Miss Tibet Pageant will take place on Sunday 12 October at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh, starting at 7 p.m. For more information please check our website, www.misstibet.com
