Swimsuit round kicks off the Miss Tibet Pageant

The first round of the Miss Tibet Pageant 2007, the swimsuit round, was held today at Asia Health Resorts.
The judges looked at figure, skin, posture and poise. The round was worth 10 points out of the total for the competition.
The five participants walked confidently and elegantly, passing a packed pool-side group of photographers, cameramen and reporters. There were also around a hundred other people in the audience who had bought tickets to the event.
The jury members were: Phil Void, a musician and long-time Tibet-supporter from USA; Andy Harrison, a doctor from US specializing in plastic surgery of the eyes and face; Tara Chang from Singapore, formerly a Gyrotonic instructor in Miami and Pilates instructor in Sydney; and Ajay Singh, an events organiser from Himachal Pradesh.
The five participants later took questions from the journalists.
The five participants were trained for one week since arriving here on the 4th. They were trained in yoga, attending one-hour session every morning from 7 a.m. with yoga master Vijay.
From 10 a.m., they listened to talks from Tibetan experts such as Narkyid Ngawang Thondup, who spoke about etiquette. Tenzin Wangdu of Sambhota Schools spoke about Tibetan language, and gave the participants a workshop in Tibetan handwriting.
Tenzin Norgay of the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights updated the young ladies on the current human rights situation in Tibet. Tsering Yangkey from TESI Environment Action Movement spoke about the environmental issues in Tibet and the world in general.
Tibetans Women's Association President B Tsering addressed the girls about the status of Tibetan women and the ways Tibetan women can contribute in the Free Tibet movement.
Geshe Lobsang Dawa from Institute of Buddhist Dialectics gave an introduction on Tibetan Buddhism.
