Dharamsala, India, 30 September 2005 – For Miss Tibet 2005, it's been a cakewalk. She will be crowned the beauty queen from 'The Roof of the World' as she has ended up the lone contestant.

"Seven of the eight contestants who had sent their applications backed out and the lone participant will be crowned Miss Tibet 2005 on October 8," Director of the pageant Lobsang Wangyal said.

The beauty queen, who he refused to name, would be presented a cheque of Rs one lakh and the tiara after a dance performance and three rounds of the contest.

"She will wear the traditional Tibetan constumes for the ceremony," Wangyal said of the sole competitor, who is a Tibetan residing in India.

The seven absentees are reported to be from Canada, Nepal, Switzerland, Thailand, United States among other countries.

The crowning ceremony will be held at a glittering function in the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) at Mcleod Ganj near here.

The pageant does not have the blessings of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile and religious leaders and the community also prefer to keep away from the event due to socio-cultural bonds.

The 2004 crown was won by Miss Tashiyangchen in a poorly contested event comprising five other contestants, while Miss Tsering Kyi took the 2003 crown after a walk-over
