Can anyone apply for the Miss Tibet contest? What are the criteria to participate?
Any Tibetan woman fulfilling the following criteria can apply to participate in the Pageant.
The criteria are:
Must have Central Tibetan Administration tax paid up to date. However, this criterion does not apply to a woman coming from Tibet to compete in the Pageant.
Must be between 17 and 25 years of age.
Must be a minimum of 165 cm in height.
Must be unmarried and must not have given birth to a child.
Why are these criteria so strong? Why the swimsuit competition?
The winner of the Miss Tibet Pageant will be competing in world beauty pageants, representing Tibet. Therefore we have to set our criteria to the same as theirs, or our Miss Tibet will not qualify for them.
How and where is the application submitted?
The application is online on this website since 27 December 2014, and submitted directly through the form. The application deadline will be 15 March 2015.
What should the applicants submit to participate?
The applicant is required to submit photocopies of the first and last page of the Green Book showing the Central Tibetan Administration tax paid up to date, a certificate of date of birth, and a Facebook page with photos, at least two close-up and two full-length.
Is there any training provided prior to the Pageant?
Past pageants provided one week of training before the competition, with courses in physical fitness, stage craft, cat walk, dance, and a make-up and hair styling workshop, along with an orientation on Tibetan history, culture, and current affairs. Due to lack of funding, we are unable to provide training this year.
How many rounds are there?
There are seven rounds: Swimsuit (Day one), Talk and Talent (Day two), Introduction, Gown, Traditional costume and Interview (Finale night).
The topic for the Talk round is chosen by lottery, drawn an hour before the round starts. Each contestant is given the choice to speak on a topic from one of two options they pick in the lottery. The topics are all on Tibet and Tibetan-related issues, such as Tibetan history, culture, language, human rights, environment, women, activism, etc.
In the Talent round, the contestants have to perform an act with no bar in language. The performance would be a minimum of three minutes to maximum five minutes long.
